David Robert Jones, known professionally as David Bowie was an English singer-songwriter and actor. He chose Bowie after the Bowie knife because "it cuts both ways." This combination of art-rock and art-pop was an anthem for the early 70s, combining kitsch and class into a unique art form. Although early in his career, this is seen as one of his best albums of all time and also as what laid the foundation for his early career. From Hunky Dory came the Bowie legacy. The album art was a portrait inspired by Marlene Dietrich and features air brushwork and Bowie's typical early style. This complemented the major pop art movements of the time and really sets the tone for his later visualization.
